The Mathematics and Demographics of a Narrowing Margin
As of Saturday, June 6, 2026, the race for second place in the Los Angeles mayoral primary has become exceptionally tight. Councilmember Nithya Raman, a progressive Democrat, has slashed former reality television star Spencer Pratt’s lead to a mere 7,494 votes [2]. Incumbent Mayor Karen Bass has already secured her place in the November 3, 2026, runoff, holding a comfortable lead with 34.81% of the vote [1][2]. The battle for the remaining spot has shifted dramatically since election night on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, when Pratt initially held a 10-point advantage [3]. By Thursday, June 4, Pratt’s lead was reported at 33,000 votes [1]. However, subsequent ballot drops have heavily favored Raman. In the latest batch of mail-in ballots processed on Saturday, Raman secured 23,514 votes compared to Pratt’s 10,336 [2], yielding a net gain of 13178 votes for Raman in that specific update. Currently, Pratt holds 27.32% of the vote against Raman’s 26.21% [1], reducing the overall margin to just 1.11%.
