Repealing the Inflation Reduction Act Risks Handing $66 Billion to Foreign Rivals
Washington, Wednesday, 21 October 2026.
Proposed efforts to repeal the Inflation Reduction Act could redirect $66 billion in clean technology investments from the United States to global competitors like China, South Korea, and Mexico. Dismantling the policy also threatens up to $50 billion in lost American export opportunities and $52 billion in annual export revenue reductions. Intriguingly, despite political opposition aiming to fund tax cuts, nearly 80% of the $500 billion in private investments attracted by the law since 2022 flowed directly into Republican-represented districts. Business stakeholders, including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and ExxonMobil, are actively defending the legislation, warning that repeal would cripple domestic manufacturing and cede industrial leadership to international rivals.
