Saudia Expands Fleet to Support Vision 2030
Riyadh, Wednesday, 11 December 2024.
Saudia announced a major fleet expansion with the acquisition of 105 Airbus jets and 49 Boeing 787 Dreamliners to enhance travel experiences and support Saudi Vision 2030.
Strategic Aircraft Acquisition
In a landmark announcement on December 10, 2024, Saudia revealed comprehensive fleet modernization plans including a historic deal for 105 Airbus aircraft [1]. The order comprises 54 A321neo aircraft for Saudia’s main fleet, while its low-cost subsidiary flyadeal will receive 39 A321neo and 12 A320neo aircraft [1]. Additionally, the airline has ordered 49 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, scheduled for delivery by 2026, to strengthen its long-haul operations [1][2].
Enhanced Passenger Experience
The airline is implementing significant upgrades to its service offerings, including an AI-powered ‘Travel Companion’ and enhanced business class cabins [1]. Through a partnership with Astrova, Saudia is introducing state-of-the-art in-flight entertainment systems featuring 4K OLED screens and Bluetooth technology [1]. The carrier has also collaborated with Collins Aerospace to retrofit seats on its current A330 and 777 fleets [1], demonstrating its commitment to passenger comfort across its entire fleet.
Supporting Tourism Growth
This expansion aligns with Saudi Arabia’s remarkable tourism growth, which has seen a 61 percent increase in international tourist arrivals in 2024 compared to 2019 [3]. The airline’s development supports Saudi Vision 2030’s ambitious goal of attracting 150 million visitors annually by 2030 [3]. As the national flag carrier, Saudia currently operates one of the youngest fleets in the Middle East, serving approximately 100 destinations globally, including all 28 domestic airports in Saudi Arabia [1].
Recognition and Future Outlook
Saudia’s commitment to excellence has earned it significant recognition, including being named the World’s Most Improved Airline 2024 by Skytrax and receiving the World Class Airline designation for 2024 at The APEX Official Airline Ratings™ for the third consecutive year [1]. The airline’s expansion strategy includes increasing seating capacity and flight frequencies while reaching new international markets [2], positioning Saudia as a key player in Saudi Arabia’s transportation and tourism sectors.
